Crafting The Integrative Value Proposition For Large Scale Transport Infrastructure Hubs - Google Books

Dr. Michael Dooms (Master in Management Engineering, Solvay Business School, University of Brussels – VUB, 2001, Magna Cum Laude; PhD in Applied Economics: management engineering, University of Brussels, 2010) is affiliated as assistant professor with the Solvay Business School of the University of Brussels (VUB). His PhD thesis treats the spatial and dynamic aspects of stakeholder management, with an application to large-scale capital investment projects in the transport sector. His other research interests are in the fields of complex project evaluation in the transport sector, internationalisation strategies and corporate strategy.
He teaches management courses in international programs at the Institute of Transport and Maritime Management (ITMMA) in Antwerp as well as the Erasmus University Rotterdam, where he is the coordinator of the port economics and policy module of the MEL programme, organized in cooperation with the Port of Rotterdam.
He has worked as a project manager and researcher on several research and consulting projects, which need a multi-disciplinary (integration of technical, economic and environmental criteria) and multi-stakeholder (public and private sector, local communities) approach. Examples in the port sector are the Master plan 2015 for the Port of Brussels, the Economic Development Studies 2030 for the Port of Antwerp and the Port of Zeebrugge, studies on port finance and charging for the European Commission, transnational Interreg studies such as the development of a vision for the canal zone Ghent-Terneuzen, the development of a toolkit for measuring socio-economic impacts for Channel ports in Belgium, France and the UK (IMPACTE) and the development of intermodal rail services for Channel ports in Belgium, France and the UK (FINESSE). Based on these projects, a large number of papers have been written, treating aspects of strategic management applied to ports (including green portfolio analysis), stakeholder management applied to ports, port strategic planning, finance and investment in ports and socio-economic impacts of port activity.
In the field of strategic management and organizational development, he was also closely involved in the development of a strategic plan for the Belgian rail infrastructure manager Infrabel. In the airport sector, he was responsible for the socio-economic and strategic evaluation of the DHL hub expansion project at Brussels National Airport.
