Adolf K.Y. Ng was invited to and spoke at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Ad Hoc Expert Meeting on "Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation: A Challenge for Global Ports", held in Geneva, Switzerland, 29-30 September 2011 (more @ the meeting's webpage).
During the meeting, he delivered a presentation, entitled: "The experience of Chinese Ports in adaptating to climate changes - still a house of cards". He argued that Chinese ports, including Hong Kong, are still rather unprepared in tackling the impacts and challenges posed by climate changes, and that substantial improvements in the establishment of "organizational resilience" are still required, especially in terms of raising social awareness and encouraging scientific research on this issue.
