A Rugs manufacturer in Chicago has been around since the late 19th century. Olson Rug Company was one of the first of its kind to use synthetic fibers in their products. At the time, they still referred to this process as "sheer Olson magic." However, they had to disclose the exact fiber content of their products to comply with the U.S. Textile Labeling Act. Their rugs typically used 65% new carpet wools, 15% new carpet nylon, and 10% new carpet acetate. In addition, they used reclaimed materials for the "stury inner" center of each rug.

The Olson Rug Company established a six-story factory on Monroe Street in Chicago. The building featured 225,000 square feet of floor space and modern electric machinery. This factory was able to produce 1,200 rugs per day, with dozens of unique patterns and designs. In the 1950s, the company had eight retail stores in the Chicago area.

The company was founded by Walter Olson and Ida Olson, who were both young men at the time. Sadly, both their children died at young ages. This caused the Olson family to spend more time in their summer home in northern Wisconsin, where they enjoyed the serenity and peace of nature while avoiding the hectic atmosphere of a factory. Eventually, they returned to work and found a new passion. He wanted to bring a bit of this peace and tranquility into the company.
