PortEconomics associate member Mary R. Brooks has been appointed as Vice-Chair of the US Marine Board, as of 1st of November.
The 20-member Board consists of top-level researchers, executives, and practitioners, from both the public and private sectors. The new and continuing members reflect the many disciplines and areas of expertise within the maritime sector.
Formed in 1965, the Marine Board is an internationally recognized source of expertise on maritime transportation and marine engineering and technology. In response to requests from sponsoring agencies or on its own initiative, the Marine Board serves the US national interest by providing evaluations and advice concerning the ability of the nation’s marine and maritime industries to operate safely and efficiently and in an environmentally responsible manner. The Marine Board identifies research needs and provides a forum for exchange of information relating to new technologies, laws and regulations, economics, the environment, and other issues affecting the marine transportation system, port operations, coastal engineering, and marine governance.
