1. State of the art of the cruise industry & cruise ports

The OECD International Transport Forum (ITF) brought cruise and cruise ports at the centre of discussions during the 2015 ITF/OECD Summit on “Transport, Tourism and Trade”, with Thanos Pallis preparing the background discussion that informed the high-level discussions that took place during the summit. 2. Cooperation and vertical integration in cruise ports

The increasing importance of coordination, cooperation, and vertical/horizontal integration may effectively impact the performance of cruise lines, cruise ports, and involved service providers. Thanos Pallis, Theo Notteboom and Grace Wang provide an understanding of what comprises a maritime cluster in a cruise port and to what extent core maritime industries involved coordinate and cooperate, and the extent they are integrated. Which are the top-10 cruise ports in the Mediterranean and its adjoining seas? Thanos Palllis compiled the list of the 10 largest cruise ports in terms of passenger movements in 2014, and compared these figures to the years 2013 and 2010, in a single picture, that captured the interest of PortEconomics readers. 4. Waste Reception Facilities in Cruise Ports: The case of the Med

With cruise activities increasing, cruise ports take initiatives to handle the produced externalities, including the wastes produced on cruise ships. In recent times, cruise lines and ports have put a lot of efforts into reducing, selecting and managing generated wastes. Thanos Pallis and Aimilia Papachristou surveyed the extent that the current practices of cruise ports in the Mediterranean region have achieved a satisfactory level of compliance.
