PortEconomics associate member Francesco Parola delivered a presentation (in French) as invited speaker during “Les Journées Neptune”, an international event aimed to provide an overview of multidisciplinary research which was organized by the University of Toulon (France) in April, 9th. Francesco participated in the session “Urban Coast and Mediterranean Sea Areas”, organised by Nicolas Peridy and Gabriel Figueiredo de Oliveira of the Laboratory of Applied Economy for Development (LEAD).
Francesco gave a speech titled “Mediterranean ports in global trade networks: managing conflicting interests and sustainable growth”, and addressed the evolving role of Mediterranean ports in deep-sea trade patterns, questioning the sustainability of the development paradigms characterizing European gateway ports and transhipment hubs.
