May 2011: PortEconomics member Thanos Pallis will discuss the findings of a forthcoming report on FDI practices in ports during the UNCTAD Investment, Enterprise and Development Commission session, 2–6 May 2011, Geneva, Switzerland.
Thanos Pallis will join Mr. Supachai Panitchpakdi, Secretary-General, UNCTAD and a number of Ministers and key decision makers in developing countries to discuss Best Practices in Strengthening Investment in Basic Infrastructure in Developing Countries. The High-level session of the Commission, jointly with the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies will consider the following questions:
– How can developing countries and especially LDCs, effectively create a role for private sector investment next to public sector investment in the pursuit of infrastructure development?
What roles can official development assistance play in stimulating private investment in infrastructure?
What are the long-term implications of employing private sector investment for the development of basic infrastructure industries?
