PortEconomics Associate member Cesar Ducruet act as a member of the research team of DEVPORT project. DEVPORT project – a regionally funded project coordinated by Prof. Laurent Leveque (Le Havre University) aiming at mapping the logistics corridor of the Seine Axis at different scales and applying modeling and GIS methods as well as results from interviews to various industries such as freight forwarding to estimate its current and future development opportunities.
The DEVPORT project relies notably on the development of a Geographic Information System (GIS) dedicated to the “Axe Seine”. This GIS is oriented towards economic geography and must allow assessment of the logistics space in the valley of the Seine, the identification of clusters and proximity relationships between companies and infrastructure transport, measure accessibility requirements and the definition of port hinterlands. More generally it is to explore all the possibilities offered by network analysis tools available in GIS.
Through the GIS axis Seine DEVPORT project aims ambition to provide the academic research of first hand informations that can be used in interdisciplinary projects but also provide economic actors, elements for strategic analysis and market knowledge, developing specific applications from research.
The scientific content of the project DEVPORT is structured around two axes. The first concerns the adaptation of economic actors maritime, port and logistics to hazards of globalization including strategies of maritime shipping lines, port planning and development, supply chain development. They are part of research fields on which team members have already significant experience capitalized. The second axis is to analyze a number of organizational models port identifiable in foreign contexts and compare them to the particular case of the ports and urbans system of the lower Seine (Le Havre, Rouen, Paris), known as the generic term “Axis Seine”. The ultimate goal is to find the best operating conditions of a regional port system, associated to a global metropolis
