Maritime Policy & Management, the flagship journal of maritime economists celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. To celebrate this occasion, Chung Ang University in Seoul (host of the Journal) organized an academic conference inviting distinguished scholars to review past and future developments in shipping and port research. PortEconomics could not miss the celebration, with members of the team invited to give knowledgeable insights of the contribution of the Journal.
PortEconomics associate member Adolf Ng developed the contribution on “The evolution and research trends of container shipping”.
Adolf noted that even though there is a a significant increase in research works addressing different aspects of container shipping in the past 40-50 years (as exemplified by the establishment of MPM in the early 1970s), important questions have remained unanswered: What are the major contributions that the shipping research community has made to the container shipping industry, global and regional economies? Had their contribution been skewed towards particular themes, directions and/or geographical areas? What was the structure of the shipping research community?
The paper in its final form will, together with five other papers presented at the 40th anniversary event, be published in a Special Anniversary Issue of MPM which will come out at the end of this year (guest editor: Wesley Wilson).
