Τhe 5th edition of the PortExecutive Seminar, the flagship program of PortEconomics for port professionals held in Copenhagen, was marked by a welcomed success.
The PortExecutive Seminar is an annual two-day executive training program exploring challenges faced by port managers and regulators. This year realised by the PortEconomics team and CBS Maritime, the seminar provided port and port-related professionals with in-depth, authoritative analysis of the challenges and opportunities facing the environment.
With input from decision-makers, industry representatives, the experienced PortEconomics team and two CBS Maritime researchers, this year’s interactive seminar focused on subject such as: port governance, public-private partnerships, stakeholders management, port performance and port supply chains, cruise ports, and green ports.
The seminar challenged practitioners with thought provoking ideas. One claim made was that ports around the world suffer from a dated mindset and lack of commercial thinking. Is it time, for example, to do away with thinking in terms port “authority” and start thinking in terms of port development on commercial, market-based ground?
An industry session, with the participation of the Danish Shipowners’ Association and Copenhagen Malmö Port, concluded the discussions of the seminar, testing the practical application of several concepts discussed throughout the two days.
During this session, Johan Röstin, CEO, Copenhagen Malmö Port and Peter Wallbohm Olsen, Deputy Director of Danish Shipowners Association (DSA) contributed a lot of updated information on the way forward for ports and the shipping industry.
PES 2015, was a great networking opportunity for researchers and practitioners in the port area. The event received a most positive evaluation by participants, and concluded spectacularly with its ending coinciding with the cultural night of Copenhagen.
