The School of Management
The School of Management (UASM) of the Universidad de los Andes (Bogotá, Colombia) seeks candidates for the position of a full-time postdoctoral researcher as part of the Kühne Professorial Chair in Logistics as of March, 2019.
The Universidad de los Andes´ School of Management-UASM was founded 1972, and its first MBA was launched in 1974. UASM belongs to the 1% of Schools of Management in the world with the Triple Accreditation by EFMD, Association of AMBAS and AACSB, making it the only School in Colombia with this accomplishment and one of nine schools in Latin America. UASM has been accredited since 2003, and in 2018 EFMD granted the School the EQUIS accreditation for 5 more years. During the last five years, the re-accreditation processes have raised important changes in the School, and at the same time have motivated other Management Schools in Colombia to follow this path.
The School has 78 full-time Faculty from 14 different countries, 87% hold a PhD. In addition, there are 85 lecturers (adjunct Faculty). The School divides its teaching and research work within 7 academic areas: Supply Chain Management, Finance, Management, Marketing, Organizations, Strategy, and Sustainability.
The program portfolio includes: (2) undergraduates; (3) specializations, (7) masters; (2) MBA, (1) EMBA and (1) PhD. Furthermore, the UASM offers (3) double undergraduate degrees and (2) double graduate degrees in association with well recognized foreign universities.
The Supply Chain Management and Technology academic area was created in 2017. This year the School started the new Master in Supply Chain Management for the sustainable and innovative development of organizations in the specific context of Latin America and the Caribbean. Specific focus is on emerging topics such as: Digital Transformation of Supply Chains, Last-mile Distribution, Cool Logistics, Decarbonization of Supply Chains, Port Logistics, Maritime Economy, Supplier Relationship Management.
The position
Postdoctoral Researchers will conduct independent research, assist and take leadership in writing manuscripts, and meet with project partners. They are also expected to support educational activities and publish in top international journals.
The researcher will form part of the Kühne Professor Chair in Logistics and work in the research areas of the Chair, focussing on maritime and port logistics or sustainable logistics projects.
The selected candidate is expected to help fostering new perspectives and approaches in scientific research through collaborative research in partnership with professors from the School’s Supply Chain Management and Technology area. The selected candidate will also act as a colleague to other faculty and as a mentor to undergraduate and graduate students. The teaching responsibilities of the position includes teaching one course in the fields of the academic areas (depending on the candidate’s experience and the demand) per semester.
Courses are in Spanish or English, therefore the ability or ambition to express yourself in Spanish and/or English is prerequisite. Participation in national and international networks as well as involvement in the area’s future project development are expected.
Qualifications
We are looking for an applicant holding a Ph.D., obtained within the last three years, in Logistics, Economics, Geography or an equivalent area relevant to the focus of the position.
To qualify for the position, you have:
- Knowledge in one or more of the following areas: maritime economics, port economics, sustainable logistics, transport and economic geography, energy efficiency
- Applicants should have good research and publication merits
- Experience and interest in applied research projects in collaboration with industry and/or public sector partners
- Excellent ability to express yourself in writing and speaking in English
- Ability or expressed ambition to learn Spanish in text and speech
It is considered meritorious if you have:
- Experience in the application of advanced tools for data analysis
- Experience in the design and implementation of key performance measurement systems
- Experience in project applications and participation in externally funded projects
As a person, you are independent with the ability and interest to contribute to the development of the academic area. You have good analytical and problem-solving skills. You are interested in knowledge exchange with diverse stakeholders. Further, you have a good ability to formulate research projects with a short-, medium- and long-term perspective.

- An interest to work in a multi-disciplinary environment
- An interest and the drive for field work in Latin America
